Parade Marshals: How Grand Ledge Honors Its Own
How the Grand Ledge St. Patrick's Day Parade chooses its marshals by community nomination, and a look at past honorees.
Parade marshals are selected by the Grand Ledge St. Patrick's Day Parade Association executive committee. Candidates are nominated by area residents and chosen during the association's February monthly meeting, giving the community a direct hand in deciding who leads the parade.
The honor recognizes people who have given something to Grand Ledge, and riding at the head of the parade is a very public thank-you from their neighbors. Past marshals have included:
- 2004: Patrick O'Keefe
- 2005: Neil Holihan
- 2006: John Dwyer
- 2007: Harold "Stump" Cody
If you know a neighbor who has quietly made Grand Ledge better, the marshal nomination is a fitting way to see them recognized. Nominations are gathered ahead of the association's February meeting each year.
